Many Anime Sites Got Banned

Hey all, as some of you may know, a lot of anime piracy sites (including nyaa, kissanime, horriblesubs, gogoanime etc) were dynamically banned in India at the start of the month on a petition of Disney India. Full list of sites here (a lot of them are other movie sites, but a lot of anime sites were targetted as well).

The thing is, in India, a lot of these sites don’t really have an alternative. We don’t really have a dedicated anime streaming service, there’s barely any new/seasonal anime content on Netflix/Prime, Crunchyroll has like just handfull of series in India, and even then payments can be a hassle. Animax India used to be a good alternative (while it was still a cable channel), but even it has been shut down for Sony Yay.

I don’t support piracy, I’d much rather give my money to the anime industry than do this (I think a lot of you would do that as well), but for that, I’d need a service which lets me watch the anime in the first place. Can’t any of the tv bigwigs think about that and make a service like that? I think it’d be quite profitable for them even if they keep the charge at 1000 per year or so. Even something like crunchyroll which lets users access their free library with ad support would be great if there was a big catalog. This post may be partly a rant, but it is a big problem for anime fans in India. I think we’re a market here but no one is targeting us, and our alternative ways to keep ourselves into the medium are being taken away.

I know a lot of you people would just suggest, getting a VPN etc, but it’s just a circumvention of the problem, not a solution. Just a small rant from a small time local weeb here.

EDIT: Since it’s not clear enough. I do not want alternative pirate sites or support piracy as I said earlier it’s just a circumvention of the problem, not a solution. The solution would be to have a legal desi anime streaming website with a good enough catalog and simulcast support.
